![]() ![]() Vivaldi's ad blocker is a little disappointing in its current state. The Start Page has 4 layouts to choose from: Large, Medium or Small icons, or a list view. ![]() I think the options are fairly self-explanatory.Įven though Vivaldi's set up guide offers an option to set it as your default browser, there is no setting that lets you do it. Tap the Vivaldi logo in the top right corner to access the browser's menu. You can manage the blocking level on a per-site basis from the app's settings. The shield icon in the top left corner shows the protection details of the current page, you may use it to turn off the blocker, or adjust the settings. Tap the + button to open a new tab, or the x to close the current tab. The pull gesture also displays two icons: + and x. Vivaldi supports pull to refresh, you may want to use that to quickly reload pages. This is likely why the address bar is at the top of the screen, I suppose that's a decent trade-off. Speaking of which, try swiping on the toolbar, this allows you to switch between tabs quickly. You can switch between the four sections by swiping to the sides. The trash can icon allows you to access your browsing history. The tab switcher lists all your tabs, recently synced tabs, and lets you enable private browsing mode. That said, the toolbar at the bottom of the iOS app provides access to the bookmarks, back and forward navigation buttons, search button (which triggers the URL bar), and a tab switcher. Most modern browsers have the URL bar at the bottom because it is easier to reach. The address bar stays at the top of the page in both styles. There are two tab styles to choose from in Vivaldi: a minimal experience without a tab bar, or a Desktop Tab experience. The new tab page has the usual "sponsored shortcuts", but you can remove them easily, and replace them with speed dials for your favorite websites. That release hasn’t quite made the cut for version 6, but Vivaldi says it is coming “soon”.Vivaldi's iOS app is fairly similar to the Android version, but for those of you who have never used it, let us a take a look at what you can do with it. The company is also working on a version of its browser for iOS, having long resisted Apple’s demands to base iOS browsers on its own web engine. Vivaldi 6 is available for download today on PC, Mac, Linux, Android and some in-car entertainment systems. Users will be able to upload and share themes adorned with their own custom icons. The Themes Gallery includes a Windows 95-inspired theme that has old-school icons and the blue/green/grey color scheme of Microsoft’s vintage operating system, for example. Some Vivaldi themes with custom icons have been made available for those who don’t want to get knee deep in designing their own icons. The company is also letting users customize the browser’s icons for the first time, letting them choose their own graphics for furniture such as the back, forward and home buttons. Workspaces aren’t the only major new feature arriving with Vivaldi 6. This gives you an overview of every open tab in every Workspace or different browser windows, and allows you to drag and drop tabs between Workspaces and windows. ![]() That should be partly mitigated by the Windows panel, which was introduced as part of Vivaldi 5. With these various different methods of managing tabs, it’s easy to lose track of where a particular tab has gone. ![]()
